Sheets calculates with 343 functions that you can write in German or English. Open, edit and save Excel and ODS files – in place, if you like.
What the app does today
Calculating
- Dynamic arrays with spill, LET and LAMBDA for custom functions
- Formula entry with suggestions, syntax help and coloured references
- Tables with structured references (⌘T)
- Goal seek
Entering and arranging
- Fill handle with series and fill options, AutoComplete
- Drag cells by their border to move or copy
- Hyperlinks and checkboxes in cells
- Group rows and columns, Go To and Go To Special
Analysing
- Sorting, AutoFilter with date grouping and top 10, pivot tables and subtotals
- Formula auditing: trace precedents and dependents, show formulas
- Conditional formatting with colour scales, data bars and icon sets
- Data validation with drop-down lists
- Charts and sparklines
Printing and files
- Page layout: paper, margins, print area, print titles, headers and footers
- Read and write XLSX, ODS, CSV and TSV, output PDF
- When saving as XLSX, the app tells you what the format can’t hold
On iPhone and iPad
- Work the grid with your finger
- Entry bar above the on-screen keyboard
- Toolbar with overflow, dialogs stacked on narrow screens
Checked with automated screenshots at iPhone and iPad sizes, not yet on real devices.

How it connects
- Publishes ranges as a dataset; Documents, Slides and Reports link to it and refresh when it changes.
- Copy and paste keeps table structure and formatting between the apps.
